Eurocare WWW

The Internet - Communication for the Present and the Future...

The Internet, or World Wide Web, is proving to be an invaluable tool of communication for organisations involved in both advocacy and public health roles. It is a relatively cheap and efficient way for organisations around the world to gather and exchange information as well as to communicate more effectively.

Since October 1996, web sites for both the Institute of Alcohol Studies (IAS) and Eurocare have been established on the Internet. Both sites contain information on topics including alcohol related issues, current policy, and news. In addition the IAS web site contains fact sheets on alcohol, IAS press releases, publications, papers, and research updates. The Eurocare site has information on its member organisations, the WHO Charter on Alcohol, Eurocare publications and policy. Work is continuing on collating information for profiles of individual European countries. Both web sites are fully searchable and contain links pages to other related web sites.

The two sites between them have to date received a total of 350,125 'hits' (access to a page and or graphic) which equates to 24,375 visitors. This is an average of 106 visits per day.
